Capital Woodcarvers Association of Sacramento

CWA is a tax-exempt woodcarving club established in July 1972 to promote the art of woodcarving and improve the skill of its members. There are currently approximately 50 members in good standing.
Wood carving is performed either with small, sharp hand tools or hand-held or free standing power tools, This caricature carving is by Joe You.

For safety reasons, carvers must be age 18 or older. Younger carvers may attend if they are accompanied by an adult.

There are many kinds of wood carving. This is a Chip-carved jewelry box by former member Hank Bruett.
The club has several regular meetings featuring carving time and mentoring and presentations on various carving techniques and methods.
CWA offers Saturday one day Mini Seminars conducted by club members with advanced skills in a variety of subjects, e.g., tool sharpening, wood painting, chip carving, Santas, Little People, etc. Mini Seminar attendance is not usually limited, and fees are minimal.

Several day seminars featuring nationally known carvers and teachers are presented on regular intervals throughout the year. These seminars are popular and early registration is recommended.

CWA has a monthly newsletter, The Sacramento Shavin’s, that is emailed to club members each month.
Each year, we have a Christmas party and gift exchange of hand-carved gifts.
